Reduce my Plastic Use in 2019

It’s more often on the news and I’ve seen different documentaries about the environment. And I don’t know why, but it suddenly hit me harder than ever before: plastic is really really bad for our nature.

I’ve seen so much plastic everywhere, the massive plastic soup in the ocean, the micro plastics in my facial scrub, showergel and shampoo and that dead whale that washed up on the shore in Indonesia in December had 150 plastic cups in his stomach, 2 flipflops, and loads of other plastics…  I got a bit mad about the fact that this happened right under my nose but that I never bothered to take the problem serious. So I finally decided I want to do something about it.

I’m not going to rant about things and how everyone should change things. Everyone got their own troubles.  But I just want to share the little things I researched in December and maybe inspire you to change these few little things in your life too. Lately on the news was something about microplastics in shower gels and face scrubs. So I decided to end the use of my old face scrub and bought a different face scrub from the brand Sealine. Sealine is a brand that is microplastic free. It’s a bit expensive but I see it as an investment in the world.

With things like this I’m going to change my life style step by step. Not drastically, because I feel like it’s going to be impossible to go zero waste in 2 seconds. It's hard to stop using plastic. I mean, just look around you, everything is plastic, or is wrapped in plastic when you buy it.

Also, I used all my plastic cotton swabs and changed them to wooden cotton swabs. I was so happy that I found the swabs in the store that I immediately bought 2 packages. When I got home I realised that the packages were plastic. You can imagine how quick my triumphant feeling washed away. It’s so weird that I didn’t realise that these swabs were packed in plastic. Everything is in plastic!

I’m doing research and I'm going to find the best and cheapest alternatives for you guys. Because, yes I want to change my lifestyle. But it must also be a little budget proof since I’m still a student and don’t have a full time job.

I’m going to show you some amazing online shops that I found through my time of research in different kinds of blogposts. I will review the products and hopefully help you to find websites or shops that are plastic free to make it a common knowledge on how to buy less plastic.

And for you guys to understand where I’ve found this new inspiration of going plastic free. There are some amazing Instagram accounts that show you in a sad but beautiful way how we are destroying our beautiful oceans and landscapes. Have a look and get inspired!

And the hasthags #PlanetOrPlastic #beatplasticpollution #beachcleanup are 3 tags that I follow as a daily reminder on my instagram that I won't forget how much plastic waste there is that is ruining our beautiful planet.
